Here are some handy tips for you to get started. I will add more as I think of them:

Dooz

  • » When adding a category name, think about the type of sites that will end up in it. The name of your category should closely match your intended use of each of the links you will add.
  • » Dual use sites such as Yahoo, which can be used as a either a search engine or for email should be categorized as you use it most commonly - i.e. news, email, music and so on.
  • » Use the Tag cloud to see how other people have categorized sites before creating your own. This helps to cut down on the number of redundant categories.
  • » Avoid personalizing categories as much as possible. Instead of naming a category "Billy's Awesome Search Engines" use something generic that will be meaningful to a stranger, like "Search Engines".
  • » From the start, adopt the practice of using plurals for category names. Since a category, by definition, holds a set of related items, your category name should reflect this. Use "Search Engines" instead of "Search Engine"
  • » When rating & reviewing sites, try to be as clear and concise as possible. Ensure that your rating is commensurate with your review and above all, be fair.

Dontz

  • » Don't recommend Websites to people you don't know or who have not requested that a link be sent to them!
  • » Don't use profanity or abusive language in any form on the site.
  • » Don't insert HTML or any other code into your notes and reviews - it will be stripped and mangled and persistant abuse will result in a ban.
  • » Don't insert URLs with query strings or session IDs. For example, http://www.mypage.com/news?uid=567567537etww645 should be added as http://www.mypage.com/news.
  • » Don't end a URL with a trailing slash. If you need to specify a directory, make use of the index file (for example, http://www.linkdoozer.com/ should be http://www.linkdoozer.com or, if this does not direct you to the correct page, http://www.linkdoozer.com/pagename.php).

[Doozer]: Doozers spend most of their time building!

This section really depends on you! Offhand, I can't know what trouble you will encounter will Doozering. Accordingly, what I propose is that, for a little while at least, I will provide you with this email address:

help [at] linkdoozer [dot] com

You write to me and I will gather up the most common queries & requests and build a repository of solutions that will be added here.

If I know my programming skills, there will probably be a need for a forum to cater for wailing and gnashing of teeth and I will add one as and when I think it is necessary.

If there are any genius programmers out there who want to lend a hand pro bono to expand on the core, I think a forum would be quite useful and we can look at that as and when.

For now, the main points are as follows:

I trust this will cure what ails you! Shout if there is anything else...

About us

LinkDoozer started in 2007 in an attempt to avoid getting on with real work!

The idea behind the site was to provide a perfectly democratic way for people to search and research websites and pages on the Internet. LinkDoozer's distinctive approach improves on the standard Search engine model because it shows you what other people are using and not what companies pay SEO experts big bucks for you to be shown.

All seriousness aside, anyone and everyone should find LinkDoozer a fun and easy place to store, view and compare their favorite websites. Even if you aren't into sharing reviews and ratings or swapping notes with friends, LinkDoozer can make things easy for you by providing a great visual and connected favorites folder.

In fact, having an interactive favorites folder is something I personally have needed for a long time - its one of the reasons I built the site.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my efforts and I look forward to hearing your suggestions about how to make LinkDoozer your perfect online companion!

Happy Doozing...
